CT Humane Society 2009 Calander

The Humane Society of CT always makes calenders to give away at the shelter, the 2009 calender will feature foster family's. We had out photo shoot during August and just got our pictures back a few weeks ago. We haven't found out where is the calender our picture will be, but it doesn't matter, at least we will be in it! here are a few of the better photos from the shoot..

new things

Holy Cow!!

Its hard for me to keep this thing up to date. Its now November 4th, election day, so its been about 3 months since I posted.

In that time we have put our house on the market and taken it off since we can't get the price we want, its a hard time to be selling a house. Its OK though, we like it here. The house fits our family nicely and we have a good back yard for the kids and our NEW DOG!!! Her name is Shiva, its pronounced she-va. We think she is a pitbull/boxer mix. We got her last Sunday and she is a ball of energy most of the time. She is going to start puppy kindergarten on Monday, I will be taking her and I'm looking forward to it. So far she knows the sit command but not much else, oh, she is doing her business outside too, that's a wonderful thing let me tell you!

Climbing Talcott Mountain

Every Friday in our house is referred to as "Field Trip Friday". This past Friday Skylar decided she wanted us to hike up Talcott Mountain on the Simsbury/Avon line. So we packed our things and went to the mountain. It looked like a nice day for a hike. We began our trek up the mountain, the first creature we saw was a bright orange newt, he was clinging to the side of a tree, he was very pretty. I took a picture but it didn't come out good. We planned on making a fairy house on the way back down the mountain, but little did we know we wouldn't get to do that. We had reached the lookout section of the mountain and took a few pictures and I found 5 monarch Caterpillar eggs to take home and hatch. At this point Lilly didn't want to walk anymore, so we stayed at the lookout while Matt and Sky continued on. About 10 minutes later they were back urging us to go back to the car. They had heard some thunder a minute ago. So we started to walk down the mountain, when it started to pour rain. We had to run all the way down the mountain because we had left the sunroof open in the car. It was pretty dangerous running with all the rain falling, but it was really fun too. When we reached the parking lot we were all running and laughing at the same time, we were SOAKED! It was definitely an adventurous field trip Friday!

We LOVE building fairy houses!! They are so much fun to make and they come out looking beautiful. We started making fairy houses last winter after reading about them online, and now we are hooked. We just got the book Fairy Houses Everywhere from the library and it has inspired us as well as all the other kids on the street. They all come over too our yard in the afternoons to build little fairy houses with us. here are some pictures of the houses that have been built in the yard recently, enjoy..

Skylar's 6th birthday

Skylar is now 6 years old!!! WOW. She is turning into such a great young lady, we love her so much. She decided to have a fairy birthday party this year, it was very cute. We decorated fairy wands and made flower head bands at her party. We also had a pixie dust relay race and pin the wand on the fairy. Sky had a great time with all her friends. Here are a few pics from the party...

Skylar's soccer team

Skylar is standing in the back row all the way to the left

Sky played soccer this past spring in the training division of the west hartford girls soccer league. She did fairly well, but I'm not sure if she will be back to play next year. the team name was the orange cheethos! here are a few pictures....

Sky's gymnastics show

Skylar had been taking gymnastics throughout this past year, and she is getting really good at it. She had her recital about a month ago, she got to show us her bar routine, floor exercise and trampoline, it was a nice show, but super hot in the gym. I videotaped the show, so I don't have too many pictures. At the end of the show, all the kids were called one by one and got medals for participation as well as a certificate of achievement :)

She did her make up all by herself, doesn't she look nice!

We have been remodeling our screened porch into a living space we can use year round, its going to add much needed space to our house. Matt is doing all the work himself. It looks so good, he only had painting and ceiling left to do, and maybe a few other odds and ends. here are a few pics of how the work is going...

WOW, its been a while...

So, I have been slacking with these posts. A lot has been going on in our lives, and I had other things going on. Let me see, we have our forth litter of foster kittens, I am volunteering twice a week at the humane society in the maternity ward and LOVE IT. I hope it turns into a paying job soon, keep your fingers crossed for me! We also just got back from our summer vacation to Cape Cod, it was so beautiful there, I had a hard time coming home. The beached are fabulous and the whole atmosphere is different, its more relaxed and slow moving, its my kind of place. I will live there someday, mark my words. What else has been going on.... Skylar's birthday is coming up, her party is on Saturday. She is having a fairy party, it should be a lot of fun, and a lot of her friends will be here to celebrate, I'm really happy for her. I can't believe she is going to be 6 years old, how time flies, wow. And Lilly will be 2 next month, she is going to have a dinosaur party with a hint of mail man, that's her new thing, she always points out the mail trucks and gets so excited about it, its really cute.

New foster kittens

YAY, we have new foster kittens, 6 of them!!! They are 5 weeks old and so cute. 3 girls, and 3 boys. They are all doing really well, gaining weight at a steady pace, using the litter box and being very sociable. We named them Callie, Camo, Grace, Dustin, Beauty and Pepper.

Sky and Matt's Fairy Hotel

Skylar and Matt have been building a Fairy Hotel out of left over pieces of wood they found in the basement. Sky loves being able to use the real tools. They put a door on hinges on one side and a glass jar on the other end, Sky hopes to catch a fairy in the jar, she hasn't caught any fairies yet, she checks almost everyday to see. Sky and her friend Misa cut out small squares from white paper resembling teeth and put them in the jar hoping to entice the tooth fairy!!

Our trip to Grandma and Grampa's house

We had a great time on our visit to Matt's parent's house in Mass. On the way we stopped by and saw my grandparents for a while, my grandfather just celebrated his 90Th birthday!! Happy Birthday Grampy!!! It was nice to see them, and I know they enjoyed seeing the kids. Then we were on the road again, heading to Matt's family in upstate Mass. The first thing Skylar did when we got there, was check to see if the giant trampoline was set up and ready for jumping, she LOVES it. Matt and Sky had to sweep it off, and put up the protective fence around it, then it was all set. She jumped for a while and had a blast, Lilly on the other hand was really scared every time it moved, so she didn't spend as much time on it as Sky.

We got to have the best turkey burgers in the world, we all loved them, thanks Grandma! they are delish. And the cheesecake for dessert was awesome. The kids had a great time golfing with their cousin Christian and Aunt Jess, and they even tried out the driving range, leaving much to be desired.

It was a really nice time, we all had fun and can't wait to see them again soon.
